lucky find: rustic three cheese tart recipe

Anyone who knows me knows that I hate eating boring food, so this morning when i woke up at the early time of 9:30 I decided to use my extra time wisely making a three cheese tart. I know it sounds a little funky but trust me, it's freakin delicious! Kraft even said of my delicious tart "The savory goodness of this rustic cheese and potato tart is a terrific treat at breakfast, lunch, or dinner." So there you go, even kraft liked it...probably because it was their recipe but nevertheless.
  • 2 cups frozen shredded hash browns
  • 1/2 sweet onion, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 (8 ounce) package KRAFT Shredded Three Cheese with a Touch of PHILADELPHIA, divided
  • 1/4 (14.1 ounce) package ready-to-use refrigerated pie crusts
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh chives

  • Heat oven to 450 degrees F.
  • Combine potatoes, onions, garlic powder and 1 cup cheese.
  • Place crust on baking sheet; spread with potato mixture to within 1/2 inch of edge. Fold over edge of pastry to partially cover potato mixture.
Bake 20 to 25 min. or until crust is golden brown. Sprinkle with chives

except I didn't have ready to use pie crust so I used this:

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup peanut oil or canola oil
  • 1/2 cup ice water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 butter or crisco

Directions

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Place dough in the pie pan, and press it out evenly with your fingers. Fill with favorite pie filling and bake.

and I didn't have hash browns so I made them with potato shreds, butter, salt, and pepper
I also didn't have an onion so i used onion powder...
Hey! but it still turned out great and my poor college budget didn't even take a hit!

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

the Awesome
Andrew Smith, he took the pictures of Italy above gorgeous right?
I'm going to Italy this summer! I'm going with a couple of my friends from last semester
so you will hear a lot more about that later on!
Google maps you can go anywhere in the world from you room, i feel like i'm on bed knobs and broomsticks...don't judge me.
Summer reading lists every year I make one and every year i read maybe 2 but thats okay
the Awkward
I was at a small concert and I hit my head on the hanging lamp. On top of everyone staring at me the singer in the band called me out saying "hey are you okay? i saw you hit your head on that lamp" typical. my life.
Yesterday I didn't wear a coat all day, today its snowing. This cycle has happened twice this week.
That girl who is on the elliptical next to you who keeps craning her neck so she can see if she is more in shape than you...you know the 0ne I'm talking about {someone please explain to me why you would be compelled to do that haha}

Reasons why I love Chicago

Everyone who knows me knows how much I love Chicago, here are just a few of the reasons why:

Best city in the world.

Palmer House Lobby

Cloudgate {aka the bean}
I'm not quite sure a metal bean is so fascinating in real life, but it is

Staircase in the Rookery
{almost every building downtown has incredible architectural features}

Sears Tower
{you will always be the tallest building in our heart}

The Museum of Science and Industry
Built for the 1893 World Columbian Exposition

Union Station
As seen in the Dark Knight

Jeweler's Building
there used to be a huge, car-sized elevator in the back so that the robber barons and their wives could shop for jewelry one floor at a time and not even have to leave their cars.

Art Institute of Chicago
keepin it classy

Chicago Cultural Center
Used to be the Library

Chicago Cultural Center
Tiffany's Dome

View from my Grandma's apartment

Dying of the Chicago River for St. Patrick's Day
{not photo-shopped!}

Jill Thomas Photography

can you keep a secret?
K here it is, don't tell anyone!
I have a bit of an obsession with wedding photography and don't worry I'm not looking for one of my own, just love to admire
Lucky for me, I found Jill Thomas who is an amazing photographer. She does wedding, lifestyle, engagements, family portraits, the works people.
Her style is very indie so if you're not into that, I apologize. Regardless give this chica a chance and check out her website {you won't be disappointed cross my heart}

have a serendipitous day!

Awkward and Awesome Thursday!!

lost things by: A Fine Frenzy
Awesome
This music video (see pictures above) need I say more?!
My old roommate came back to visit woot woot
Yoga...seriously you need to take a class (if you go to byu-i hopefully I'll be an instructor in the fall, so you can come to my class!)
baby powder, slightly weird but works miracles for lets just say...less than squeaky clean hair
Emily from the Bachelor totally going to win!! (if you don't believe me watch monday's episode and count how many times he says mercy!! he never said that before but now he does because he's living with Emily who says it all the time. plus he smiled when chris said will it be emily?)
Awkward
A friend and I went to swing dancing last night, although I looked like a fool it was so much fun (despite random strangers not believing that I can not swing dance for bean and insisting I dance with them anyway)
My conversation with a friend about how his presentation went;
him: "we were talking about pro-nouns and antecedents but, I didn't really know how to explain it so it was a little awkward"
me of course:"science is the worst!"
he just stared at me and said: "english."
I know what pro-nouns are...I pinky promise!
other than that surprisingly unawkward week-kudos. to. me.

In the spirit of the Daybook, Awkward and Awesome Thursday!

Awkward

Hitting your head against... never mind, this one is too awkward
Strangers who tell you their life story...TMI pal.
Squeaky shoes in a quiet hallway
Snugling under the covers and realizing a the light across the room is still on
Skidding on ice on your way to class and pretending like no one saw, just laugh it off kid
Having to swaddle fake babies in Infants and Toddlers class
Being single and in an Infants and Toddlers class (I'm taking it for my major, I'm not going to have children anytime soon, okay?!)
Walking into class 30 second late and then trying ignoring the 40 pairs of eyes watching you as you find a seat
Responding to something a stranger says then they look at you funny because they were talking to...themselves. and I'm the crazy one?!
Also I may or may not have walked into the men's room. I also may or may not have thought oh my gosh there is a boy in here! and then realized there are no urinals in the girls bathroom...awkwardd

Awesome
A photo of mine was chosen to be on a jones soda bottle aww yeahhh (p.s. that's the picture, look for it on strawberry lime flavors)
cookie dough cream cheese (yes for bagels silly!) best. discovery. ever.
instead of snowing, it rained last night! time to break out the swimsuits :D
skype, never ceases to amaze me how I can see people half way around the world
Laughing at a stranger with another stranger in a nice way of course!
Discovering that you bought a pre-highlighted textbook
The stroller lane around the track at the gym...only at byu-i do
Cute old people holding hands

have an awesome thursday!
